The Murray-Darling Balanced Water Fund (BWF) recorded an 11.1% return for the financial year, while also making cash and water donations for the delivery of environmental outcomes to threatened wetlands in the southern Murray-Darling Basin.
Environmental outcomes are optimised through the fund’s watering partner the Environmental Water Trust (EWT), which engages the Murray Darling Wetlands Working Group to deliver environmental watering services with scientific oversight and review provided by The Nature Conservancy.
BWF donated 1400 megalitres of water and $440,000, with outcomes outlined in EWT’s Environmental Impact Summary Report 2019-20, including five watering events to six wetlands totalling 73ha.
The fund has provided unitholders with annualised returns since inception of 15.78%.
The Murray-Darling Basin is one of the largest and most important river basins in the world. It’s also one of the most vulnerable with many of its ecosystems suffering.
The MDBBWF is the first water investment fund in Australia that provides water to farming families whilst restoring ecologically and culturally significant wetlands and supporting threatened species across the river basin.
