Despite recent rains, more than half of California remains in drought and there is an urgent need to make changes to how water is managed. With Australia regarded as a leader in water management, three industry delegations from California have visited Australia over the past 18 months to meet with farmers and public policy experts to discuss water management issues. A report last year titled “Managing Drought: Learning From Australia”, produced by the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology Sydney, showed that strategies developed and mistakes made during Australia’s so-called 15-year millennium drought between 1997 and 2012 provided a powerful resource for California.
